[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2103″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Since entering the portal in early February, the recruiting process for Alabama transfer running back Camar Wheaton has been relatively quiet. That ended abruptly on Tuesday when he announced his commitment to SMU.

The Texas-native became a priority for the Mustangs once they lost their top back, Ulysses Bentley, to the portal in mid-March. With rumors swirling that Wheaton wanted to play closer to home, the relationship quickly strengthened and led to the commitment.

Houston, Minnesota, Purdue, Texas Tech, Washington State, Virginia, Utah, and, Oregon were some of the other schools involved with Wheaton after he became available.

After sustaining a knee injury in preseason camp last year, Wheaton ended up redshirting as a true freshman in Tuscaloosa. With the Mustangs, Wheaton will be expected to be the main weapon on the ground in 2022.

Farrell’s take: This one worries me a little bit. Some I spoke to at Alabama weren’t high on his work ethic and determination to recover from injury so he needs to prove a lot. He was a 5-star out of high school because of his track speed but he’s a 3-star transfer and we will see how he develops.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
