Fact or Fiction:
Isaiah Neyor’s loss will send Texas into a spiral
Farrell’s take: FICTION
Rumor has it that Neyor, the dynamic transfer from Wyoming, is out for the season with an ACL and that’s not good for Steve Sarkisian and Texas. But it’s not the end of the world either and I’ll tell you why. There is plenty of depth at the wide receiver position and Neyor had a ton of upside but was also struggling a bit to learn the system and needs work on route running as well. With Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington, Troy Omiere, and transfer Agiye Hall (or, on second thought, maybe not,) among others, there is talent there for whoever wins the QB job. More concerning are the reports of guard Junior Angilau missing the season as he was an experienced starter on a line that is a massive question mark for the Longhorns. The great OL class of 2022 will be tested early and that’s of more worry to me.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]
Fact or Fiction:
John Calipari is self centered and narcissistic
Farrell’s take: FACT
Many coaches are self-centered and narcissistic. Living in Connecticut, I heard of the battles between Jim Calhoun and Gene Auriemma over dumb things like office space at UConn, as both coaches were wildly successful but also a bit egocentric. So when Jim Calipari came out and whined about his facilities issue and called Kentucky a “basketball school,” I wasn’t surprised. But here’s something for Calipari to chew on. If the administration were forced to choose between football and basketball from a financial standpoint, then hoops and Calipari would be gone. Mark Stoops has done an exceptional job making Kentucky a successful football program, and that SEC money means much more than hoops. So check yourself, coach Cal, what you said was dumb.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

There should be concern over Penn State recruiting losses
Farrell’s take: FICTION
I’m not worried and I’ll tell you why. James Franklin is swinging for the fences in the Southeast and taking on some of the bigger programs in the SEC. And you’re going to win some and lose some. Everyone points to losing Justin Fields to Georgia but this kind of thing happens when you recruit elite players in that region. And imagine, just imagine, if Fields had stuck. I’d rather have a coach willing to deal with the ups and downs of recruiting on the road in the SEC than someone who isn’t willing to take the risk. DT Tomarrion Parker from Alabama decommitted and we know of the loss of QB Marcus Stokes from Florida as he headed to the Gators. And even though WR Yazeed Haynes hails from Pennsylvania his loss to Georgia is another blow from the SEC. Alabama safety Dakarri Nelson is rumored to be considering Auburn and Ole Miss despite being committed but this is the ugly world of recruiting and James Franklin knows the losses will also mean gains at times.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
