As has been the trend for several years now, more and more universities are allowing the sale of alcohol at sporting events to establish a new source of income. The latest addition to this list is Notre Dame, which made the announcement this afternoon.

Notre Dame has announced it will sell alcoholic beverages at concession stands at Notre Dame Stadium, Purcell Pavilion and Compton Family Ice Arena.

Starting this fall, alcohol will be sold during football, basketball and hockey games. Upwards of 80% of power conference programs now follow this protocol, so while this news is exciting for many fans in northern Indiana, it is also a long time coming.

The money that can be earned with the sale of alcohol is substantial, especially when you add ice hockey into the mix, which is something many schools don’t have the option of doing. Notre Dame’s Compton Family Ice Arena holds 5,022 people, which should be a nice extra boost in alcohol sales, to go along with Notre Dame Stadium’s 80,795 seats and Purcell Pavilion’s 9,149 seats.

That’s up to 94,966 opportunities to accumulate additional money for Notre Dame’s NIL fund. Every penny matters nowadays.
