In-state recruiting has not been going very well for Wisconsin in recent years. And yesterday it was discovered that one of the top in-state recruits that they did land from the Class of 2024 will be heading to the transfer portal.
The news regarding redshirt freshman offensive lineman Derek Jensen, as announced by Bucky’s 5th Quarter, is another blow for head coach Luke Fickell and the Badgers.
“Jensen, an Arrowhead, Wisconsin native, enrolled early with the Badgers as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024, and was one of the five offensive linemen that Wisconsin picked up in the class.
However, he’s been nowhere to be seen this spring, and head coach Luke Fickell confirmed that on Tuesday when speaking to the media.
“Jensen hasn’t been out here all spring,” Fickell said.

Jensen was one of only three in-state recruits from the Class of 2024, joining tight end Robert Booker, who recently medically retired, and linebacker Landon Gauthier. That followed up a 2023 Class that had only one instate recruit, running back Nate White, who has since transferred to South Dakota State.
The Badgers did sign five in-state recruits in the Class of 2025, but have yet to add one in the Class of 2026.
Jensen has yet to announce his intentions, but is expected to enter the transfer portal when it reopens next week.
