There have been plenty of thoughts and opinions regarding the transfer portal in recent years. Grambling head coach Mickey Joseph added a new one when he discussed the possibility of a school being reimbursed when one of their players transfers elsewhere.

"There needs to be a buyout. If they move up from me and go G5 or P4 I should get compensation for that."
Should there be a buyout method for the #NCAA Transfer portal? #Grambling #HBCU pic.twitter.com/xp7DNoDczC

Coach Joseph, who went 5-6 during his first season with Grambling, is more known during his recent stints as an assistant with LSU and Nebraska, and as a quarterback with the Huskers from 1988 to 1991.
Joseph’s opinion regarding compensation is interesting. The chances of it actually happening is unlikely at best, but it does make some sense. If a program puts in the time, money and energy to develop a player, why shouldn’t they be compensated by the new program that will likely reap the benefits? However, considering the lack of current rules and regulations, going this far outside the box makes it extremely unrealistic.
Coach Joseph is already emotionally invested in this topic since he recently saw three of his players transfer to FBS programs. Linebacker Andrew Jones led the way with a move to Ole Miss, defensive end Michael Garner will be playing for Wisconsin and wide receiver Javon Robinson committed to Georgia State.

The emotional investment Coach Joseph is currently experiencing is the only type of portal investment that will be coming his way, but his creative thinking is appreciated.
