The Mica Mountain (Ariz.) Thunderbolts (14-0) won their first Arizona 4A football state championship last season after being in existence for as a program for only four years.

WR Jake Johnson set up the Thunderbolts first score in that title game with a 19-yard catch and they went on to a 42-13 win over Arizona College Prep.

It was coach Pat Nugent’s first state championship in a 22-year career with four teams.

For the Thunderbolts, Johnson caught 18 passes for 216 yards, two touchdowns and averaged 15 yards per catch for a team that averaged 38 points per game. One of those touchdowns came against Pueblo in a 59-7 win.
