It is normal for many head coaches to be bullish on the players in their room. However, not many will publicly state that their quarterback room is the best in the country. But that is what Georgia Tech’s Brent Key said yesterday during an interview with ESPN’s Andrea Adelson.
Does Georgia Tech have the best QB room in the country with Haynes King and Aaron Philo back? Brent Key thinks so … pic.twitter.com/Ld37WRLUDr

The two main quarterbacks that Coach Key is referring to are returning starter Haynes King and backup Aaron Philo. King, who started his collegiate career at Texas A&M, has enjoyed two productive seasons with the Yellow Jackets. While in Atlanta he has passed for 4,956 yards, 41 touchdowns and 18 touchdowns. Interceptions were a bit of an issue in 2023, but he resolved that in 2024 by only throwing two. King has also proven himself to be a dangerous dual-threat, with 1,324 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns during the last two seasons.
When King missed some time last season with a shoulder injury, true freshman Aaron Philo stepped in to take over the offense. Most memorable for Philo was his performance against NC State, when he completed 19 of 33 passes for 265 yards and added a rushing touchdown.

Outside of King and Philo, it is worth noting that Georgia Tech added a Class of 2025 quarterback, Grady Adamson of Edmond (OK), who the staff is also very high on.
But is this group the best in the country? While King is a proven veteran, which isn’t easy to come by in today’s game, there are other programs that can easily argue Georgia Tech’s status of having the best quarterback room in the country. A few to consider are Clemson (Cade Klubnik/Chris Vizzina), BYU (Jake Retzlaff/McCrae Hillstead), Colorado (Kaidon Salter/Julian Lewis), Illinois (Luke Altmyer/Ethan Hampton), LSU (Garrett Nussmeier/Michael Van Buren Jr.) and Oklahoma (John Mateer/Michael Hawkins Jr.).
Time will only if Coach Key is correct, but if he is, Georgia Tech will be one of the biggest stories of the 2025 college football season.
