With the NFL Combine beginning today, every player in attendance is completely focused on improving their draft stock. But if Cam Skattebo of Arizona State has at least some of his thoughts elsewhere it is understandable after finding out last night that he was getting sued by a former teammate.

Reported by the Phoenix News Times, the plaintiff is Mattheos Katergaris, a walk-on offensive lineman with the Sun Devils, who alleges the incident occurred on July 31, 2023. In the article, which can be read here, it states that while the original lawsuit was filed nine months ago, it was just amended to add Skattebo.
“In May, a former Arizona State football walk-on sued the school and the Arizona Board of Regents over injuries he allegedly suffered from a golf cart accident after a 2023 practice. Now the former player, offensive lineman Mattheos Katergaris, has updated his lawsuit to name star Sun Devils running back Cam Skattebo as a defendant, saying Skattebo’s actions were “the actual and proximate cause” of his injuries.”
On that day, Katergaris claims that while seated in the back of a team golf cart used to transport players between facilities, Skattebo jumped onto the back, which eventually caused the seating that the lineman was sitting to break. This caused him to fall from the cart. The resulting injuries caused months of medical treatment, which now leads to Skattebo being sued for $300K.
Katergaris never played for Arizona State and eventually entered the transfer portal in 2023. He was not on the Sun Devils’ roster during the 2024 season.

Running backs aren’t scheduled to be test at the Combine until Saturday, so it gives Skattebo a couple of days to process what has happened and to try and clear his mind. While these charges are not extreme, it is still not a situation anyone wants to deal with two days before one of their most important days of their life.
