Gibson was a 6-foot, 185 lb. four-star cornerback out of Hewitt-Trussville High School (AL). In his senior season, he had 40 tackles, 13 passes defended, and four interceptions. He had offers from 31 schools but committed to Tennessee in August 2022. He enrolled early and participated in the 2023 spring practices.
As a freshman, Gibson appeared in all 13 games, seeing significant action on special teams and as a reserve defensive back. He tallied nine tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup.

Gibson had a breakout season in 2024. After missing the season opener vs UT-Chattanooga, he became the starter the next week against NC State. He recorded 32 tackles, one forced fumble, and had 3 pass defenses on the season.
There is no doubt there will be enormous interest in this talented lock-down cornerback. With the amount of passing in today’s game, defensive backs are in high demand. Gibson should have a chance to move to a contending team and earn some additional NIL money at the same time. It will be interesting to see where he lands.
