It is always an interesting story when a fan favorite returns to the program he thrived at as a coach. That is shaping up to be the situation in Happy Valley, as it was recently hinted that former quarterback Trace McSorley will be back with the Nittany Lions:

Penn State Athletic Director Pat Kraft hinted at the possible addition of former quarterback Trace McSorley to the Penn State Football staff during the 2025 THON Pep Rally on Saturday night

McSorley was on campus yesterday as co-host of the THON Pep Rally, Penn State’s popular annual event held to help raise money to fight childhood cancer.

During his playing career (2015-2018), McSorley passed for 9,899 yards and 77 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,697 yards and 30 touchdowns. During his three full seasons as a starter, he helped lead the Nittany Lions to a 31-9 record

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

Since concluding his collegiate career, McSorley was a sixth-round draft pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2019 and then saw time with Arizona, New England, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Washington. He hasn’t been on an NFL roster since the Commanders dropped him from their practice squad this past August.

It is unknown what his role on the staff would be but his fulltime return would be a welcome addition to Penn State’s program.
