Most new coaches try to ease into their jobs, but Rich Rodriguez isn’t actually new so he took a different approach during a press conference today in Morgantown. When asked if he watched video of last year’s West Virginia team he gave an interesting response:
WVU HC Rich Rodriguez on watching some of last season’s film: “I watched some of Texas Tech until I threw up.”

Selecting to watch video of the Texas Tech game was a bad decision since the Mountaineers lost 52-15, so the likelihood of seeing anything positive was minimal. But even with that it was an extreme statement by someone who also knows his audience. Coach Rodriguez is West Virginia and the fans in Morgantown have been waiting for someone with his attitude since he departed for Michigan.
This can also be taken as an interesting shot at Neal Brown, even if it likely wasn’t intended as one. The former coach was fired soon after the loss to Texas Tech and is still on the open market. Things obviously didn’t work out for Coach Brown at West Virginia but he is likely to land on his feet somewhere soon.
Whatever Coach Rodriguez’ intentions were, West Virginia fans have quickly moved on from Coach Brown and focused on the excitement of having their coach back in Morgantown.
