The SEC is never void of talent, but two young quarterbacks have college football fans especially excited. LaNorris Sellers, a redshirt freshman at South Carolina, and DJ Lagway, a true freshman at Florida, showcased their potential in 2024, but who will continue to excel in college and then the NFL?
2024
Sellers used his redshirt season to his advantage, because after a bumpy start in 2024, he excelled. He finished by passing for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while completing 65.6% of his attempts. He also showed his dual-threat abilities with 674 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. For Lagway it was more trial under-fire as he was pushed into the starting role after Graham Mertz went down with a season ending injury. While experiencing some ups and downs, he finished with 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions passing.

2025
Sellers has an obvious head start, as the strong finish to his 2024 season has put him into the discussion of early Heisman Trophy candidates. Expectations will be through the roof in 2025, so it will be interesting to see how he handles the pressure. For Lagway, there are also expectations, but not to the level of Sellers. If he does produce a season similar to Sellers in 2024, then the hype will deafening next off-season. The future is now for Sellers, while for Lagway it can still go either way depending on how he produces in 2025.

2026 and Beyond
Another explosive season from Sellers, especially one where he continues to show improvement, will likely push him to the NFL Draft in 2026. His dual-threat ability will be a huge selling point for him and is something that many NFL general managers thrive to find. For Lagway, while he still needs to show more on the collegiate field, many NFL scouts believe that this is just a formality. His potential is off-the-charts, and anything less than being elite during his next two college seasons will be surprising. And if that happens, he will be one of the top players selected in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Conclusion
This will be a fun pair to follow in 2025 and beyond. While Sellers has shown more to this point, mostly due to his redshirt season, Lagway can have an equal impact in 2025. NFL scouts love the word “potential”, and both of these young signal callers have an abundance of it. Overall, Sellers has to be the odd-on-favorite to make the bigger impact during his football career because of what he accomplished in 2024, but don’t be surprised if Lagway joins him in this conversation by the end of the year.
