There have been plenty of interesting coaching moves since the conclusion of the 2024 season, with the latest taking place in California. Division III Whittier, which disbanded its football program only two years ago, is returning to the field and will have an FBS coach in charge.
Sources: Whittier College is set to name Northern Illinois tight ends coach Cory White as its head coach. Whittier is reviving the program for the 2026 season after discontinuing football in 2022. White earned a master's at Whittier and spent time at U of San Diego, Humboldt St.

Cory White had been the tight ends coach at Northern Illinois since March, 2023. Before his time with the Huskies he most recently was part of coaching staffs at San Diego, New Mexico State and Humboldt State.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Humboldt and his master’s degree from Whittier, which explains his connection to the program. Coach White has also already coached at Whittier, being part of the staff from 2004-2006.
Even with his connection to Whittier, this is a big move for a Division III program that didn’t exist last season. The Poets announced their return in October and raised over $800K through alumni support which helped make this hire happen.
