For the Bech family, the new year started with the worse possible news. In the early morning of January
1st , a pickup truck ran through Bourbon Street killing 14 people. The Bech’s eldest son Tiger, was among
those that were killed. He was a former All-Ivy League kick returner at Princeton. He was 27 years old.
To honor Tiger Bech, all players wore a number seven decal on their helmets. The game-winning play
started with seven seconds left on the clock.
“It’s simple. My brother has some wings on me,” an emotional Bech told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. “He gave them to me. He let that all take place. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tiger – nothing else but
them. They’re the reason I did what I did today. I attribute it all to them. I’m just a physical person here
doing it, but I attribute it all to them.”
