Five-star high school recruits generally have dozens of scholarship offers to sift through. That was the case with Class of 2023 cornerback Cormani McClain, who eventually signed with Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders. However, after one season with the Buffaloes, McClain entered the transfer portal and was left in an unfamiliar position.
McClain, a Florida native, seriously considered the Gators out of high school, so given a second opportunity he committed to his home-state school. But because the Gators were at their scholarship limit, McClain played as a preferred walk-on during the 2024 season. That recently changed.

In his first season with the Gators, he only played in three games due to an upper body injury. During his time on the field, he totaled five tackles, one pass breakup and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown. While the injury cut his playing time, the potential he showed both during games, practice and summer camp was enough for the Gators to put him on scholarship.
Now, it will be up to McClain to prove to everyone that he is the five-star that everyone expected him to be.
