Good recruiters get talent on campus, and great recruiters close the deal before they leave
campus. Can Sherrone Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome prove their ability to
ABC (always be closing) and get top target Ty Haywood committed before he leaves Ann Arbor
this weekend?
Michigan sent shockwaves throughout college football when they walked into
SEC country and walked out with Bryce Underwood after flipping him from LSU. And now it
looks like Michigan is about to do it again to the SEC but this time to Alabama.
Ty Haywood committed to Alabama in July but decided not to sign during the early signing
period and decommitted this past Monday. Now with his official visit this weekend, and Moore
wanting to smash on offense Haywood is a must-get. Michigan’s biggest threat to sign Haywood
is Texas Tech and Florida State Michigan’s newfound transactional NIL approach should give
them the resources to get him.
In past years to get players like Haywood, Underwood, and five-star tackle Andrew Babalola wouldn’t even be a
possibility. But Michigan finally embracing NIL has now allowed them to compete with anybody.
Having already put together a massive package for Underwood, they should have no problem doing it
again to get Haywood to Ann Arbor.
Haywood is the number 22 recruit in the country according to On3 and is ranked fifth at the
offensive tackle position. Haywood stands 6’5″ and weighs 297 pounds and played for
Ryan High School in Denton Texas. In high school, Haywood was a multi-sport athlete playing
football and competing in track and field in the shot put and discus events.
Michigan already has three offensive linemen, committed so far in Babalola, Avery
Gach and Kaden Strayhorn. Babalola, the 15th-ranked player nationally and third offensive
tackle in the country headlines the group. If they can get Haywood’s commitment and secure two 5-star recruits on the offensive line it should give Underwood or whoever the quarterback is, the
protection needed moving forward.

Even with all the changes that have taken place in college football recruiting still is the lifeblood
of building a successful program. Michigan resources will make them elite on the trail in the
past 11 years Michigan has brought in six 5-star recruits. In year one, Moore could bring in three. The
SEC could deal with Ohio State pulling players, maybe Oregon but add in Michigan and you just
might hear a call for restriction coming from the south.
