BREAKING: Will Deion Sanders Sign His Contract Extension Offer?

Colorado has offered a contract extension to Deion Sanders, but why has he yet to sign it?

Deion Sanders proved many people wrong during the 2024 season. And one of the results is a new contract extension offer from Colorado. However, he has yet to sign it. Will he sign it or is his future somewhere else?

In a recent Sports Illustrated article by Kenny Lee, he mentions that Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt knows that Sanders has an offer available to him but has yet to sign it.

“He has a very, very, very good offer in front of him from Colorado, and I don’t know why it hasn’t been signed,” Klatt said

The thought that Sanders would follow his son, Shedeur Sanders, and Travis Hunter to the NFL has quieted down, but with information like this it will likely start to simmer again. And the timing of this is especially interesting considering the team that Sanders was most often linked with, the Las Vegas Raiders, were the latest team to fire their head coach.

However, one important aspect of Sanders’ potential move to Las Vegas has drastically changed in recent weeks. The Raiders looked to be in solid position to have one of the top two picks in this spring’s NFL Draft, putting them in a great position to grab Shedeur, but recent wins dropped them all the way to 6th.

Sep 28, 2024; Orlando, Florida, USA; Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders (2) rolls out to pass against the UCF Knights during the first quarter at FBC Mortgage Stadium.

It is highly unlikely that Shedeur would still be available at #6, so a trade would have to be made to move up near the top. Would either of the top two teams in the draft, Tennessee and Cleveland, be willing to trade their pick? Unlikely, considering both are desperate for a quarterback. And if not, would Sanders still think about going to the Raiders if his son wasn’t part of the plans?

Whatever your thoughts are on Sanders’ future in Boulder, the noise of a possible departure will only get louder until he signs the extension. Yes, he has three years remaining on his current contract, but nobody lets an extension linger for too long unless there is a good reason not to sign it.

Eyes will once again turn to Boulder to see what Sanders does.
