Stories came out earlier this week that Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell was interested in interviewing for the New York Jets job. While nothing has come of that yet, new information came out this afternoon that Campbell will be interviewing with another NFL team.

Only yesterday I wrote about Campbell’s interest in interviewing for the Jets job (read here) so the news regarding the Bears makes everything even more interesting.
It is easy to now assume that Campbell is ready to move on and try to test himself in the NFL. Previously he had denied requests for interviews, but now he is openly lobbying for them. This also means that his agent is actively talking to NFL team that are looking for a new head coach in hopes of getting his client more interviews.

While this doesn’t mean that Campbell won’t be back in Ames for the 2025 season, it does mean that Cyclones fans have every reason to worry. He has done a great deal for the program, but how much more can he accomplish? Is it possible that he believes that after an 11-3 season his stock will never be higher?
This could also mean another raise and extension for Campbell with Iowa State, but either way the next few days and possibly weeks will be very stressful for the Cyclone faithful.
