With the NFL regular season now complete, there are plenty of teams looking for a new head coach. Could a current college head coach make the jump? A recent story suggests that one Big 12 head coach is open to interviewing for a job
Fascinating nugget from @ZackBlatt talking #Jets HC search:
He was told by league sources that Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell "would be willing" to take an interview with the Jets this offseason for the HC gig.
NYJ requested an interview with him back during the 2019… pic.twitter.com/OYX4BEAvpi

Matt Campbell has done an amazing job during his nine seasons with Iowa State. He has compiled a 64-51 record, taken the Cyclones to seven bowls and is coming off his most successful season (11-3). Iowa State is not an easy job, yet Campbell has turned the program into a annual winner.
As mentioned above, the Jets did request an interview with Campbell back in 2019 but were declined. That is unlikely to play any role in 2025’s decision making but is worth noting. It is also interesting how information like this would leak out. The most likely scenario is that the information was “leaked” by Campbell’s agent, to show his client’s interest.

Will the Jets reciprocate? Thus far, no word has come out regarding an interview being scheduled. But now with this information being public, don’t be surprised if other NFL teams start to sniff around.
Until all the NFL head coaching vacancies have been filled, this can be a stressful time for college football fans. Some of those fans are now in Ames, Iowa.
