ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has been a popular and polarizing topic in recent weeks due to some of the comments he made regarding the playoff selection process and the SEC. This morning, he discussed some of the issues during his appearance on the Andy & Ari On3 podcast
Today at 9:30 am ET (and on demand anytime after), Kirk Herbstreit joins the show to talk Ohio State, CFP selection and co-hosting with Nick Saban.
He also doesn't think his bosses are the least bit sad only one SEC team is left. https://t.co/geNk8LZrar pic.twitter.com/tJGcXkaQ4g

Herbstreit shared his thoughts on the public opinion that he and ESPN were hoping for more SEC teams in the playoffs and especially the final four.
“We could not have paid for a better final four with Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, and Texas. The only one missing is Michigan. So, this idea we that want Alabama, Texas A&M, and Auburn. Are you kidding me?”
This makes perfect sense. Considering some of the other programs in the 12-team playoff, having a final four of Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Texas is a huge victory for the network. Ratings will be through the roof during the semifinals and then the Championship, whoever is involved.

Herbstreit has been popular for a long time, but recently his polarization has become somewhat awkward. He is a public figure who is paid to share his thoughts and opinions. A person doesn’t have to agree with his point of view, but to vilify him has become almost trendy.
Now we are at a point that whatever Herbstreit says will be dissected thoroughly on social media. He continues to draw attention to whatever he says, which has become a bonus for ESPN. Publicity is what the network wants, and they’re definitely getting it with Herbstreit.
