Ohio State regularly experiences success, both on the field and with their players making an impact in the NFL. But with the amount of talent they usually possess, some players get overlooked. That was the case with Jameson Williams, who was asked about his experience with Ohio State before he transferred to Alabama, on a recent podcast.

Appearing on Amon-Ra St. Brown’s podcast, he shared his thoughts on his time with the Buckeyes

“(Alabama) was where I needed to be…I really just wanted an opportunity bruh… they (Ohio State) wasn’t giving a nigga an opportunity.” pic.twitter.com/4Fmxx5bU9B

So why did Williams transfer? He believes he wasn’t given an opportunity, but it is impossible to fault Ohio State for that since they had Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave and Jaxon Smith-Njigba on the depth chart ahead of Williams. All three were elite college wide receivers and all are still excelling in the NFL. Even the tight end, Jeremy Ruckert, is currently in the NFL, so opportunities for pass receptions were hard to come by.

Should he have stayed for one more season to see if more of an opportunity would arise? Considering the statistics for the following 2021 season, that likely would not have worked out for Williams, since Wilson, Olave, Smith-Njigba and Ruckert all had more productive seasons and Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka were also on the roster. It was an embarrassment of riches for the Buckeyes.

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Jameson Williams (1) catches a pass as Cincinnati Bearcats cornerback Coby Bryant (8) defends in the first quarter during the College Football Playoff semifinal game at the 86th Cotton Bowl Classic, Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

In his one season with Alabama, Williams played alongside John Metchie, Slade Bolden, Traeshon Holden and Ja’Corey Brooks. While also a talented group compared to most other college rosters, it isn’t comparable to the receiving group being rolled out by Ohio State

There are several ways to breakdown his comments, but overall the most important thing to remember is that everything worked out for both sides. Ohio State didn’t suffer after his transfer and Williams made an immediate impact at Alabama which led him to become one of the more explosive young wide receivers in the NFL.

This is an example of the transfer portal actually working perfectly.
