Everyone should be talking about the upcoming playoff games, but instead because of the NCAA’s decision to put the transfer portal window in December, the focus has turned to other topics. This was magnified recently with Marshall opting out of a bowl and then Beau Pribula announcing his transfer. Yesterday, UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor shared his thoughts on the topic:

Coach Taylor’s comments are extremely relevant today. The easy thing for people to do is to blame the kids. But that is a lazy take. Some decisions to enter the portal may be questionable, but the timing and length of this window creates chaos. When you expect 18–22-year-olds to make life changing decisions in a chaotic and rushed environment, questionable decisions will be made.
There is no simple answer to this problem, but the current situation is not sustainable. The NCAA either needs to return to a full-time transfer portal, make the windows longer or change the timing of the windows. However, my guess is that nothing will be done, because that is the usual response by the NCAA.
The adults need to realize their mistakes and at least try to fix this mess. The kids are easy to blame, but its time to focus on who the real problem is.
