Under the leadership of Barry Odom, UNLV experienced the best stretch of college football they have ever had. Many assumed that with him recently taking the job at Purdue, the Rebels would fall back into the college football wasteland. However, UNLV seems to have different ideas, as they are close to hiring a head coach who would keep them in the spotlight.
Dan Mullen has had a great deal of head coaching success. He went 69-46 with Mississippi State and then 34-15 with Florida before getting fired by the Gators during the 2021 season. Winning 103 games during a 13-year SEC head coaching career is something that anyone would happily put on their resume. And now he looks poised to be the next head coach at UNLV

This would be a homerun hire by UNLV. Mullen, who has been working as a studio analyst and color commentator covering college football for ABC/ESPN, brings a level of coaching success and respect that most schools would beg for. He would not only keep the Rebels relevant nationally, but he has the potential to take the program even higher.
It is also safe to assume that if he does experience success in Las Vegas, P4 schools will once again come knocking. But for the time being this is for UNLV to enjoy and likely reap the benefits of.
Many schools had the opportunity to hire Mullen in recent years, so credit should go to UNLV for likely pulling it off.
