Less than 24 hours after being fired by Charlotte, head coach Biff Poggi showed up at the 49ers practice today. While this is far from the norm and shouldn’t be expected, for Coach Poggi it showed the connection he has with the current team.
Not much went right during Coach Poggi’s time in Charlotte, which didn’t even last two seasons. The decision came two days after the 49ers lost 59-24 at USF, which dropped their record to 3-7 and officially eliminated them from bowl contention. Overall, Charlotte went 6-16 during Coach Poggi’s limited time in charge.
He arrived in Charlotte after coaching at Michigan under Jim Harbaugh since 2016. Coach Poggi brought plenty of energy and entertainment to the city with his personality, but the wins didn’t follow.

While his time in Charlotte didn’t result in the wins the program was looking for, by the reaction of the team today, it is easy to see that he was well respected by everyone.
If he decides to continue his coaching career, whatever team hires him will be making the right decision.
