With the transfer portal opening in less than a month, plenty of schools will be looking for their next quarterback. Here are five who have a good chance of entering and would create plenty of noise:
Miller Moss, USC
Moss is the most likely entry into the portal after recently losing the starting job to Jayden Maiava. He stuck with the Trojans for two seasons while backing up Caleb Williams but is unlikely to return next season after passing for 2,555 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions in nine games this fall. While he has already been linked with Michigan, expect plenty of other top programs to make a run at Moss.
Conner Weigman, Texas A&M
Weigman has flashed at times but has never been consistent enough in College Station. This eventually led the Aggies to turn the offense over to Marcel Reed. With his Aggies’ future in limbo, a transfer is expected. In 14 career games at Texas A&M, spanning three seasons, he has passed for 2,657 yards, 19 touchdowns and six interceptions. Schools will believe that his next stop will help him take his game to the next level.

Jackson Arnold, Oklahoma
Expectations were extremely high for his potential coming into this season, but not much has gone as expected in Norman for Arnold or the Sooners in 2024. As a result, his days with Oklahoma are likely numbered as a change of scenery would be good for both sides. Many schools will still see his potential after watching him pass for 1,243 yards, 12 touchdowns and only three interceptions this season. The Texas native could find several interested schools back in his home state.
Thomas Castellanos, Boston College
This is a new addition but makes plenty of sense after Boston College announced on Monday that they were making the move to Grayson James. Castellanos has struggled this season but has also thrown 18 touchdowns and five interceptions. That, along with 1,113 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground last season, is more than enough to gain plenty of interest in the transfer portal.

Jadyn Davis, Michigan
Michigan should’ve added a transfer quarterback last winter, but because they didn’t that becomes mandatory during the next window. Also, even with the Wolverines’ quarterback woes this season, Davis playing never was seriously considered. Patience is not a strong virtue nowadays, especially for quarterbacks, so with a transfer coming in, expect the true freshman to find a new home.
Julian Sayin or Air Noland, Ohio State
There are still a lot of moving parts with this situation. This one may drag out until the spring, as whoever loses the Sayin/Noland battle to be the starter for the 2025 season is likely gone. It is also possible that Ryan Day drags out his decision until next summer in the hopes of keeping both or that Ohio State dives back into the portal during the winter to find a veteran. But my guess is that one of the two won’t be on the roster next September. Both are young and talented, but with little to no experience, so their portal would be interesting.
