In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Mike Gundy’s time at Oklahoma State is coming to an end
My Take: FACT
As one of the most likable personalities in all of college football, we have seemingly glossed over the fact that Mike Gundy’s team is struggling. Maybe he just isn’t a great coach. Oklahoma State got boat-raced by Kansas State yesterday as the Cowboys fell to 3-2 and will almost surely fall out of the rankings. The Cowboys could arguably have been 2-3 if it wasn’t for a missed Arkansas field goal and we would be looking at the Cowboys a lot differently. Gundy has been the head coach at Oklahoma State since 2005 and is on a perpetual 5-year contract that he signed in 2020, but it’s time for the Cowboys to move on and find a new leader.
2. Colorado should be ranked

My Take: FACT
After the loss to Nebraska many were quick to jump off the Colorado hype train this season. All the Buffaloes have done since is win, including a huge conference road win against UCF on Saturday. The Buffaloes came in as 14-point underdogs and won outright, 48-21, as the game was never really close. Travis Hunter continues to impress, as he has nearly solidified himself as the best player in college football. The Colorado offense is extremely fun to watch. Spearheaded by Shadeur Sanders, the group has been playing great, considering how terrible the offensive line is. Colorado will welcome in one of the best teams in the Big 12 next weekend in Kansas State. Coming off of back-to-back massive victories for Coach Prime, the Buffaloes should find themselves in the AP Poll.

3. With another disappointing loss, Lane Kiffin could be inclined to leave Ole Miss
My Take: FICTION
On Saturday we saw a classic Ole Miss home loss to Kentucky. It was the first time UK beat Ole Miss in Oxford since 1978. Kiffin’s high-flying offense was neutralized by the Kentucky defense as Jaxson Dart struggled to sustain consistent momentum. Kiffin decided to kick a 48-yard field goal late in the game to try and tie the game up, but the kick was shanked left and Ole Miss suffered a brutal home loss. There has been rumblings that Kiffin could leave Ole Miss and go to Gainesville, but that just doesn’t seem likely. This has been Kiffin’s best team since he got to Oxford, but a home loss doesn’t derail their season. Even if Ole Miss is disappointing this season and we finally realize Lane Kiffin’s ceiling, there is just no way he leaves what he has built in Mississippi.
