Shedeur Sanders throwing his teammates under the bus

After the Nebraska game, Shedeur Sanders decided to throw his teammates under the bus

I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise, but Shedeur Sanders is taking his father’s approach at life. Blame everyone else and deflect criticism. Deion Sanders did it throughout the 2023 season, during this off-season and now through the first two games. And now Shedeur followed his father’s philosophy last night after Colorado’s mistake filled loss at Nebraska.

The post-game antics began before the game actually ended, with Shedeur walking off the field with about two minutes remaining. Rightfully he has received plenty of ridicule for this decision. Personally, while it was odd and unnecessary, I wasn’t even going to write about this as I just assumed that it would be deflected because of an “injury”. He doesn’t look injured in the video below, but is it possible? Sure, considering he was hit about 500 times during the game.

While I was going to give the field departure a pass, Shedeur’s postgame press conference changed everything in my eyes. When asked about the interception he threw, which was returned for a touchdown, he blamed freshman wide receiver Drelon Miller for his “rookie mistake” instead of just taking the blame as every veteran quarterback should and has since the invention of football. Shedeur then continued to throw his teammates under-the-bus by doubling down on the blame game. His offensive line was the target this time:

In about 15 seconds Shedeur managed to crush his offensive line’s ability to both pass protect and run block. Was he wrong? No, not at all. Should he say it during a press conference after week two of a 12 week season? Definitely not. While his offensive line has been inefficient through two games, they are also the only players who are on the field to protect him. Personally, I don’t think I’d publicly shame the players who are tasked to protect me.

But Shedeur doesn’t know any better because he has watched and heard his father do the same for years. So instead of taking the blame, or if nothing else, at least not point fingers at teammates, Shedeur made the wrong decision.
