In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. UGA should be No. 1.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Georgia is ahead of Ohio State, Oregon and Texas as the top team in the pre-season AP poll and I can’t think of a reason they shouldn’t be. Ohio State has as much talent as anyone but have a quarterback question and need to get much better along the offensive line. The weakness of Georgia? Not one I can find. UGA would have likely won it all last season in a 12-team playoff and are back as strong as ever. The schedule is tougher than it has been but they are more than ready. And Oregon and Texas? Talk to me when you win a huge game.

2. Colorado wins 7 or more games.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

This is a make or break season for Deion Sanders already. Why? Because he has already said he thinks this team can make the playoff. In a new conference things get easier as the Big 12 isn’t loaded, but there are still many good teams there. Kansas State, Arizona, Utah, Kansas and Oklahoma are all ranked and tough outs and if they lose to all five, they’d need to win out to go 7-5. This Colorado team could go anywhere from 8-4 to 4-8 again and I’m leaning on the low side for wins as they lack depth and some continuity.

3. Nebraska starts off 7-0.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I see it all over the place, mainly from Nebraska fans. They think they could be undefeated heading into the Ohio State game in late October. They’re wrong. While the schedule is easy, we have no proof they are better than a Colorado team they lost to last year or better than Rutgers. And heck, this is a Nebraska program that has invented new ways to lose close games so how do we know they don’t falter against Purdue, Indiana or Illinois if they handle Colorado and Rutgers. I just don’t buy 7-0.
