With the 2024 college football season only a couple of weeks away, here is a closer look at five redshirt freshmen who will make a statement:
QB LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina)
The skinny: With Spencer Rattler now in the NFL, the Gamecocks are hoping that Sellers will be the answer at quarterback for at least the next two seasons. Named the starter after the spring, Sellers brings a running dynamic that was lacking with Rattler. However, Gamecock fans should be patient when it comes to the passing attack this season. Overall, Sellers may prove to be a better fit than Rattler for the offense South Carolina runs, but it will take a little time for everything to click.
WR Aidan Mizell (Florida)
The skinny: With returnee Eugene Wilson III and transfers Elijhah Badger and Chimere Dike, Florida has veteran talent at the wide receiver position. However, Mizell’s performance during the off-season has been difficult to ignore. One of the standouts of the spring game, he brings elite track speed to the field, which is something that will make him a valuable part of the receiving corps this season.

LB Josiah Trotter (West Virginia)
The skinny: As an early enrollee last year, Trotter quickly established himself as a true freshman to watch during the spring until an ACL injury quickly derailed everything. The son of NFL linebacker Jeremiah Trotter is now healthy and once again looks ready to make an immediate impact in 2024. At 6-foot-2, 238-pounds, Trotter may be eased onto the field in 2024, but look for him to become an important part of the defense as the season progresses.

QB Malachi Nelson (Boise State)
The skinny: The former five-star high school recruit spent one season at USC before making the move to Boise State in January. He is currently battling with Maddux Madsen for the Broncos’ starting job, but however that competition turns out, it is hard to imagine Nelson not playing a role in Boise State’s 2024 season.

WR Noah Rogers (NC State)
The skinny: If anyone missed the memo, Ohio State recruits elite wide receivers. So, when Rogers entered the transfer portal, the Wolfpack hit a homerun when they were able to bring him back to his home state. The Raleigh native has not disappointed since his arrival and is poised to make an immediate impact as part of an NC State offense that suddenly looks rejuvenated and dangerous.
