Now that we know who the Top 100 players are in the new college football game, we can stop some of the speculating. Today I focus on the Top 10 and if I would buy or sell each player. A “buy” means I agree with the rating; a “sell” means I disagree.  Their accomplishments, consensus reports, and how I expect them to measure in the skills and attributes that make up a players rating were all considered. Coming soon: Underrated and overrated player lists.

Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

96 Overall

Verdict: Buy

Johnson at 96 seems fair. He’s a proven elite CB who is good at the categories that make up the game attributes. Going into this game we knew he was almost a lock to be a Top 10 rated player, though we also said it for Luther Burden and that mysteriously didn’t happen. Johnson has earned this 96 and to be the game’s highest-rated CB.

Will Campbell, OT, LSU

96 Overall

Verdict: Sell

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

There is zero doubt in my mind that Campbell should be the game’s highest-rated player. He is dominant, proven, and checks every box. He is tied for the highest rating at 96, but even this feels low to me.

Ollie Gordon, RB, Oklahoma State

96 Overall

Verdict: Buy

After the season he had last year, it’s tough to debate this rating. It was inevitable that he was the game’s highest-rated RB, a position that everyone looks at and notices. He’s the reason people will play with the Cowboys in dynasty mode. He had over 1,700 yards last year and 21 TDs – that gets you noticed. He’s also the reigning Doak Walker Award winner.

James Pearce Jr., DE, Tennessee

95 Overall

Verdict: Sell

Another guy who checks every athletic attribute box, though. in his case, the athletic freak Pearce should be higher. His skillset will potentially make him the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He is a dominant player off the edge. I feel he should be, along with the previously mentioned Campbell, higher than he is.

Here are the ratings for James Pearce Jr. in EA CFB 25:

Overall (OVR): 95
Speed (SPD): 88
Acceleration (ACC): 95
Strength (STR): 85
Awareness (AWR): 91
Jumping (JMP): 85

He is going to be a PROBLEM for opposing defenses in the game. 😤 pic.twitter.com/MYe75Ev4GT

Caleb Downs, FS, Ohio State

95 Overall

Verdict: Buy

Downs is an elite player. I wouldn’t put him in my Top 3 overall players, but he’s certainly a Top 10 player. That warrants a 95 rating, which is outstanding. He’ll be a force on defense for users who control the safety over the top.

Travis Hunter, WR, Colorado

95 Overall

Verdict: Sell

There are too many unknowns for me to buy here. Hunter is an elite player, but his higher rating in the game would’ve been at CB. As only a WR, there would be multiple players ranked higher. Not the case on offense. We know most people will play him both ways in the game, but it’s tough for developers to bake in him doing that unless you make him extraordinary at everything. I’d have bought him at 95 on defense. Not here, though. Not with only five receiving TDs last year.

Malaki Starks, FS, Georgia

95 Overall

Verdict: Sell

Starks is another guy I think is underrated in this game. He’s an elite safety who’s proven it over multiple seasons. A starter since his true freshmen year, there are no significant weaknesses in his skillset, which translates to a top-notch rating. To me he feels like an upper 90s guy.

Still crazy as hell that Malaki Starks did this in the very first game of his Georgia career! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Mason Graham, DT, Michigan

95 Overall

Verdict: Buy

Another one where I looked at it and immediately thought that was fair. He’s the best interior DL in the nation, has an impressive track record, and his attributes are well rounded. He’ll be a force in the game for any center and guard to block.

Michigan DT Mason Graham looks like a future top-10 pick in the 2025 draft.

Quick off the ball, absurdly strong, smart 3-tech with refined hands and gap awareness. Close to Jalen Carter’s grade on tape, but without character concerns, he might go higher. pic.twitter.com/fBsCX0N6le

Quinshon Judkins, RB, Ohio State

95 Overall

Verdict: Buy

Judkins was elite in two years at Ole Miss, going over 1,000 yards both seasons and surpassing 30 total TDs. I think his production takes a significant hit this year since he’s sharing carries with TreVeyon Henderson and probably QB Will Howard near the goal line. Expected production shouldn’t knock him here, though. In terms of what his rating should be, he’s deservedly the No. 2 RB.

Tate Ratledge, OG, Georgia

95 Overall

Verdict: Buy

Ratledge is a workhorse who’ll be dominant in the inside run game. I waffled on selling here – both at too low and high – but I figured if that was the debate he is just right. He has earned being the top-rated guard in the game.
