Daddy Ball is on the national sports scene more than it ever has been with Deion Sanders and LeBron James. Two national icons are shoving their kids down the respective throats of America and it can be sickening. But LeBron makes Deion look reasonable in all of this, and that’s hard to do.
Deion’s promotion of his kids is a bit over the top. He coached them in high school, in FCS and now in the Power Four at Colorado. He clearly puts his kids ahead of everyone else on the team as they receive permission to do things others wouldn’t be able to do. From fashion shows during team meetings to promoting a singing career for Shedeur at the spring game, it’s ridiculous. And treating arguably his best player, Travis Hunter, like his own son reminds me when he allegedly tried to “adopt” Noel Devine as a Fort Myers kid out of high school despite Devine’s lack of interest. He allegedly moved the kid to Texas against his will only to see Devine escape to go back home. Deion has a pattern of doing this with his own kids and others. But there is one common denominator — they have skill.

Shedeur Sanders may need a clock in his head more than a flashy watch on his wrist and needs to avoid holding onto the ball so long to avoid sacks, but he has NFL potential. Is he No. 1 overall pick level? Nope. Is he a first rounder? Not to me yet. But he has NFL potential for sure. Shilo Sanders may not be the fastest kid at the combine next February and he’s not super quick twitch but he’s a hitter with solid instincts and has NFL caliber potential as well. Despite Deion’s annoying promotion of his kids (and of course himself) these kids belong in professional football. Bronny James does not.

Daddy Ball is evident in Boulder but it’s next level in LA. The Lakers have long been a proud franchise with amazing history and success and now they’ve turned into a joke. LeBron is not only hand picking his podcast partner as the coach but he’s clearly the GM as well, shoehorning his son Bronny into the organization. There is no team on the planet that selects Bronny James in round two if his dad isn’t LeBron and he’s set the kid up for failure and ridicule. Even Deion might be hesitant to be so brash and selfish although we likely will never know as his kids are solid. LeBron has made Daddy Ball reach the highest level of sports and we could be witnessing the most egregious and selfish act in the history of professional sports. It’s one thing to give titles and jobs to unqualified children and even have them as coaches as we’ve seen with Jerry Jones, Bill Belichick and others, but to bring them into the playing area? It’s insanity.
Bronny doesn’t belong in the NBA but here we are and because of that I’ll say something I never thought I’d say. Deion Sanders looks downright reasonable when it comes to the promotion and favoritism of his kids and that’s saying something. LeBron, you win.
