Last week, FOX Announcer and former Colorado quarterback went on the record with Colin Cowherd last week and said Colorado could make the Big 12 Championship Game. If they do, and win said game, they would make the new 12-team College Football Playoff.
No need to play the season in Boulder, Klatt has spoken and has them winning the Big XII after losing eight games last season.
“There’s a chance that Colorado’s competing to go to the Big XII Championship Game,” Klatt told Cowherd last week. “If they were to get into that game, they would be 60 minutes from the College Football Playoff. It’s not out of the realm of possibility.”

The key part of the quote is “a chance”. I mean there is a chance that the Miami Marlins are going to win the World Series, but the probability is very slim. There is also a chance that it could snow in Miami during said World Series, but I would not go buying a snowsuit just yet.

How serious is Klatt in his assertion that Colorado will make the Big XII Championship game?
“There is a scenario where if [Shedeur] Sanders is healthy, and they maintain some of that health with guys on the outside, [Travis] Hunter, who I think is one of if not the best overall player in college football, there’s a chance that Colorado’s competing to go to the Big 12 Championship Game,” Klatt said.
Klatt loves Coach Prime and never has a bad thing to say about the program that finished 4-8 last season and lost eight of their final nine games. He has heaped more praise on Coach Prime for winning four games than should be allowed. Klatt also spent more time talking about the off-the-field changes to Colorado, such as increased enrollment, than the team’s play on the field in his long-winded response.
Well, ESPN posted online that the Buffaloes will finish in 10th place in the conference. They project them to finish with a national rank of 36th in the country and a 6-6 record. Klatt, who recently came out with his own post-Spring college football top 25, does not have the Buffaloes ranked with five Big-12 teams in front of them. CBS Sports has them 11th in the conference power rankings.
So, Klatt thinks that at present, Colorado is not a top-25 team, but will still make the playoff. Hmmm.
What am I missing?
Klatt would like you to believe that Prime is a great coach because he won 400% more games in his first year, jumping from one to four wins. The 2022 players, most of whom did not return for the 2023 season, are now scattered around the country. Prime brought in his own players and still lost eight of his last nine. What does that say about Prime and his coaching/recruiting abilities?
Prime wants you to think that Colorado is relevant again. Klatt wants to drive home that point. I think neither are correct and Colorado will still be a subpar team in 2024. They will be on the outside looking in and will not reach a bowl berth.
The Buffaloes lost plenty of players to the transfer portal and started rebuilding for the second time in two years by relying heavily on the portal. Can it work on the field? CBS Sports has their doubts, with “the uncertainty surrounding Colorado’s depth and coaching changes” as key factors in their low ranking. I do too.
