With action in the transfer portal slowing down, it is time to take a closer look at how each P4 school did during this cycle. Up now are the Kansas Jayhawks

The skinny: Since his arrival in Lawrence, head coach Lance Leipold, has been able to establish a football culture that is apparent both on and off the field. It is easier to see on the field, as the Jayhawks have gone 15-11 over the last two seasons, after not winning more than five games in any season since 2008. Off the field, players have bought in to his vision, which is proven with only nine scholarship players entering the portal during this cycle, and 20 over the last two combined.

Dec 26, 2023; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Kansas Jayhawks head coach Lance Leipold celebrates with the trophy after defeating UNLV Rebels at Chase Field.

Total # entries into portal: 14

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

Key losses: DL Gage Keys (Auburn), OL Armaj Adams-Reed (Texas A&M)

Key additions: DE Bai Jobe (Michigan State), OL Amir Herring (Michigan), DB Devin Dye (Utah State), DL Javier Derritt (North Dakota State), OL Shane Bumgardner (D2 Tiffin)

Final thoughts: While the Jayhawks couldn’t add a high quantity of players during this cycle, they still managed to add several pieces that should prove very valuable during the 2024 season and beyond. DB Devin Dye and DL Javier Derritt should become immediate contributors on the defensive side of the ball, while OL Shane Bumgardner was brought in to battle for the starting center job. Two other young players who have the potential to contribute early but may also take another season to mature are DE Bai Jobe and OL Amir Herring. It will be interesting to see how quickly they develop and if they will be able to become impactful players in 2024.
