Ryan Day’s Previous Seasons at Ohio State
After five full seasons with Ryan Day as the Ohio State Head Coach, many people around the Buckeyes fan base have called for his firing. Yes, under Day, the Buckeyes have been highly ranked each season and have dominated most Big Ten teams. He has an overall 56-8 record, two Big Ten Championships, and a Big Ten Coach of the Year Award. Day has also proved he can make the College Football Playoffs, leading the Buckeyes there thrice. He also led the Buckeyes to the National Championship game in 2021, although fell short to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Despite this, Coach Day has seemed to falter when it matters most, bringing in zero National Championships. Within the playoff, he is 1-3, suffering two heartbreaking losses to Clemson and Georgia.
Day has also disappointed against Michigan, losing the last three matchups in the series as the Wolverines come off their own national title. This has left many Buckeyes fans in shock considering their previous domination of Michigan in this rivalry under Urban Meyer. The Buckeyes haven’t brought home a National Championship to Columbus since 2014, also under Meyer, and another underachieving season could see Ohio State looking for a new head coach.
Ryan Day’s Upcoming Season
Moving forward to this season, Ryan Day sees possibly the best Ohio State team under his tenure with the Buckeyes. Day and his staff were very active in the Transfer Portal as well as recruiting, bringing in some of the top available players. The team is headlined by many star players including Caleb Downs, Emeka Egbuka, Denzel Burke, Jeremiah Smith, and Will Howard. The work the Buckeyes have done to bring in this very talented team has many considering them the top team in the country.
With the new 12-team College Football Playoff format the Buckeyes should be in a prime spot to make the Playoffs and make a deep run. This won’t be as easy as imagined for the Buckeyes, who are facing some of the top teams in this new Big Ten. Ryan Day will be facing likely his toughest schedule this season with one of the best teams he has had. With tough matchups against Oregon, Penn State, and of course Michigan, they will get changes to prove why they are considered one of the best teams in the country.
Ryan Day will be very determined to win this season considering his job may be on the line. Many fans and people involved with this Ohio State organization consider the season unsuccessful if they don’t win it all. With one of the top teams he’s seen at Ohio State, Day will be in a prime spot this season to prove why he is the Buckeye’s answer.
