The first week of May was busy for some top names in the 2025 recruiting cycle, let’s take a look at some of the best wins to start the month on the recruiting trail:

Avery Gach

Michigan

#236 NAT, #15 IOL, #2 MI

Just when things were looking bleak for coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines on the trail, they get a massive commitment from a top in-state target. With the likes of conference foes Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin being in on Gach’s recruitment this feels like a favorable momentum shift for Michigan.

Trystan Haynes

Oklahoma

#151 NAT, #18 CB, #4 OK

Speaking of in-state wins, Trystan Haynes is a top-20 player at his position nationally and nice grab for coach Brent Venables and his staff. The 6’2″ corner chose the Sooners over the likes of Alabama, Notre Dame and Georgia, vaulting Oklahoma into the talks of top-5 classes at this point in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

Omari Gaines

Stanford

#828 NAT, #65 S, #28 NJ

The Cardinal and coach Troy Taylor are getting a versatile player (and former Penn State commit) in the secondary that could line up at corner or safety, and Gaines is their fourth east coast commitment in this cycle. It will be interesting to see if this is a trend moving forward, considering the move to the ACC makes a great deal of Stanford’s away games take place on the east coast.

🚨 Power 5 Recruiting News 🚨

Congrats to current Shabazz '25 DB Omari Gaines (@omarigaines_) who recently committed to Penn State! Gaines played his sophomore season at St. Peter's Prep, but is now at Shabazz HS in his hometown of Newark.

Tyler Lockhart

Auburn

#145 NAT, #18 LB, #6 MS

This commitment was a surprise to many and an impressive win for coach Hugh Freeze and the Tigers over conference opponents Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Lockhart didn’t receive an Ole Miss offer until late April, which makes you wonder if the Rebels waiting so long had an effect on Lockhart’s decision to leave the state of Mississippi.

Nasir Wyatt

Oregon

#70 NAT, #8 EDGE, #5 CA

The Ducks landing Wyatt’s commitment over future Big 10 rivals Ohio State and USC holds a ton of weight and reaffirms that coach Dan Lanning and his staff are going to be a force in the new look conference. The 6’3″, 215-pound linebacker is seen as a potential edge rusher at the next level and will likely be asked to play a few different positions, making his pledge to the Ducks even more valuable.
