Draft Fact or Fiction: Chiefs Get the Upper Hand, Falcons’ Awful Draft, Shedeur’s 2025 Stock

Mike Farrell on whether the Chiefs swindled the Bills into trading with them for the Xavier Worthy pick, who had the worst draft…

In today’s Fact or Fiction — NFL Draft edition — I look at three big recent topics around the NFL Draft and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. The Chiefs swindled the Bills for Xavier Worthy.

Farrell’s take: FACT

C’mon Buffalo. You can’t get past the Chiefs in the AFC so you allow them to trade up and fill a massive need with the fastest kid in the draft? What the hell? Might as well hand the Chiefs another Super Bowl. The rest of the league hates you.

Oct 8, 2022; Dallas, Texas, USA; Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy (8) celebrates with fans while wearing the Golden Hat trophy after the game against the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl.

2. The Falcons had the worst draft.

Farrell’s take: FACT

The Falcons addressed an area they didn’t need at QB at No. 8 overall and didn’t take a cornerback, a huge area of need, during all seven rounds. While I like that they took three defensive linemen, they could have bypassed Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8 and taken the top corner in the draft. Or they could have gone on edge rusher Dallas Turner, freeing up one of their next picks at corner. Or they could have traded out of No. 8 and added a pick to take a corner. It’s just a glaring miss because of one head-scratching pick.

Jan 1, 2024; New Orleans, LA, USA; Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (9) throws a pass during the second quarter against the Texas Longhorns in the 2024 Sugar Bowl college football playoff semifinal game at Caesars Superdome.

3. Qb Shedeur Sanders will be the No. 1 pick in 2025.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I just don’t see it. The Colorado QB is the betting favorite to be No. 1 overall next year and we all know it will be a QB. And it’s not a great QB draft at least at this juncture. But even with all that said, I don’t see it being Sanders. Why? First, he needs to process faster and show much better pocket presence for me to believe he’s a franchise NFL QB. And secondly, his dad brings baggage as Deion will be heavily involved with what team can select him and so on. Will Deion want him going to the teams expected to be picking high, like the NY Giants, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, or Las Vegas Raiders? Who knows. There are just too many reasons to bet against Shadeur at No. 1.

Nov 11, 2023; Boulder, Colorado, USA; Arizona Wildcats linebacker Dominic Lolesio (42) tackles Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders (2) in the second half at Folsom Field.
