Portal Fact or Fiction: Rashada’s Departure, Peyton Kirkland to CU, Jermayne Lole’s Next Home

Mike Farrell on whether Jaden Rashada leaving ASU moves the needle for the Sun Devils, if the newest OL for Coach Prime can be a difference maker…

In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. QB Jaden Rashada is a big loss for Arizona State.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Rashada is a talented kid, but word out of ASU, he wasn’t guaranteed the starting job with Michigan State QB transfer Sam Leavitt impressing the staff. Rashada could push for a starting job at a lower Power Four school (keep an eye on Mississippi State) or be a backup at Georgia or someplace else, but based on the NIL money grab out of high school and now bolting after adversity at ASU, I think this isn’t a huge deal.

Nov 25, 2023; Tempe, Arizona, USA; Arizona Wildcats linebacker Jacob Manu (top) sacks Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Jaden Rashada in the second half of the Territorial Cup at Mountain America Stadium.

2. OT Payton Kirkland is immediate OL help for Colorado.

Farrell’s take: FACT

He’s massive at 360 pounds and has always had talent, and CU needs offensive line depth, so this is a good fit. The knock on Kirkland has been his work ethic and selfish nature, so we will see how those things translate to the Buffs. However, he’s a massive kid who will help Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes immediately.

BREAKING: Former Texas OT transfer Payton Kirkland @gbpkay has committed to Colorado. He stands at 6"6, 366lbs.

3. DT Jermayne Lole could land at FSU.

Farrell’s take: FACT

The Seminoles weren’t one of the first teams mentioned for the Louisville DT transfer, as Oklahoma, Washington, USC, and Texas A&M were mentioned, but I’m hearing FSU wants him badly and is pursuing him heavily. And with recent DL transfer success and how Mike Norvell works the portal, don’t count them out.
