With spring ball winding down, breakout players have stepped up and freshmen have gotten their first taste of College Football. Not many games are left, but some players stamped their presence for the foreseeable future in the SEC.
1. QB Taylen Green, Arkansas
For the past three years, K.J. Jefferson has been the man
down in Fayetteville, but that is no longer. The long-time signal caller decided to enter the transfer portal and take his talents to UCF. That leaves the Razorbacks with fellow transfer Taylen Green taking over the reins. If the spring game was any
indication of how he will play, Arkansas could have a good season. The
Boise State transfer finished the day going 17-22 with 243 yards and
three touchdowns while adding another 15 yards on the ground.

2. QB DJ Lagway, Florida
With Graham Mertz returning this season coming off of
his best year yet, I don’t expect Lagway to start, let alone even play much, but it is very hard not to get excited about
the young Freshman. As the No. 2. quarterback recruit coming
out of the high school ranks, it was a major coupe for the Gators to pry
him out of Texas.
He has an excellent build standing at 6’3″, 241 pounds, but his
skillset is even better. He can throw it with the best of them with power and touch. I mean he finished his senior year
throwing for 4,605 yards and 59 touchdowns to set the Texas 6A
record, along with running for another 953 yards and 16 scores on
the ground to earn Gatorade National Player of the Year honors. He
finished his Spring Game completing a smooth 12 passes for 173 yards and
two scores.

3. WR Dominic Lovett, Georgia
Coming into last season much was expected from Dominic Lovett as he was one of the top transfers in the entire country. He had a
breakout season for Missouri before ultimately transferring to
Georgia for greener pastures. With that being said, he didn’t quite
produce how he wanted, but still was a solid season finishing with
54 catches for 613 yards and four touchdowns.
This season should
be completely different as he will be the main Georgia target with numerous
players moving on. He solidified
that in the spring game, leading all pass catchers with seven
receptions for 107 yards and a one-handed touchdown grab.

4. QB Garrett Nussmeier, LSU
Garret Nussmeier has waited his turn, and it finally looks
like he is ready to take over the Tiger offense and run with it. Now, it won’t
be easy replacing the reigning Heisman Trophy winner by any
means, which is immense pressure, but the veteran has enough
experience to go along with talent to get the job done.
He was nearly
perfect in LSU’s spring game, completing all seven of his passes for
187 yards and two touchdowns, with both traveling at least 45 yards
or better through the air. It won’t be as exciting as Jayden Daniels,
but he is more than capable. Keep an eye out.

5. WR Germie Bernard, Alabama
This offseason has been a roller coaster for the Crimson
Tide, as the great Nick Saban finally stepped down as the head man
to retire. While they did get the best coach on the market in Kalen DeBoer, they also lost an immense amount of talent to the transfer
portal. They did gain some as well, but that is still to be seen how
it will exactly play out. One of those transfers they did get to
suppress the exodus was former Washington pass catcher Germie Bernard.
He originally signed with Michigan State out of high school in 2022
before transferring to Washington, and now he followed his coach
on to Tuscaloosa. Bernard is a pure burner. He
can take the top off in a hurry while also being one of the shiftiest in the open field. He most certainly looked the part in Alabama’s “A-Day”, finishing with three catches for 122 yards. I’d say that’s a
pretty good average per catch.
