Draft Fact or Fiction: Chargers Trading Back, Bowers Falling, Broncos Targeting QBs

Will Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers move back and draft an offensive lineman? Will the All-American TE fall past 15? And should Sean Payton and Denver take a QB at 12?

In today’s Fact or Fiction — NFL Draft edition — I look at three big recent topics around the NFL Draft and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. The Chargers trade back and go OL.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I’ve seen some mock drafts show Jim Harbaugh and company moving back and going OT, mainly at No. 12 with a trade with the Vikings. But I think someone trades up to No. 4 with the Cardinals, and the first four picks go QB, which leaves the Chargers with their choice of Marvin Harrison Jr. and Malik Nabers, and that choice is too good to pass up.

Dec 29, 2023; Arlington, TX, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. (18) stands on the field during a time out in the game against the Missouri Tigers at AT&T Stadium.

2. Brock Bowers will slide past No. 15.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

The Jets at No. 10 are possible, but I’ve heard some rumors that Bowers could slide because he didn’t work out for teams, and some are questioning (incorrectly) his speed and how his athleticism translates as a potential top 10-13 pick. But he won’t get past the Colts at No. 15 if he does slide and you can get Indy is hoping he will.

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers (19) celebrates after scoring a touchdown during the second half of a NCAA college football game against Ole Miss in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023. Georgia won 52-17.

3. The Broncos need to go QB at No. 12.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

With Jarrett Stidham as their potential starter, you’d think they’d be desperate for a QB, and they are, but I hear they are going to trade back into the last part of round one and take either Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr. there. If they can’t trade back they will likely go defense and perhaps try to land someone in round three (Spencer Rattler) or trade into round two to grab a QB.

Nov 24, 2023; Eugene, Oregon, USA; Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix (10) throws a pass during the second half against the Oregon State Beavers at Autzen Stadium.
