Five More Transfers Who Are Shining in Spring Practice – Part 4

All new transfers hope to make a favorable first impression, but not all immediately turn heads during spring practice. And now with spring practices taking place across the country, here are five transfers who have already opened eyes at their new school:

RB Raleek Brown – Arizona State (USC)

The skinny: Arizona State will have an abundance of riches in their backfield this season, with Brown joining returning running backs Cameron Skattebo and DeCarlos Brooks. More of a scatback type, at 5-foot-8, 185-pounds, Brown has shown this spring that he will add a new explosive dynamic to what has the potential to be one of the top rushing offenses in the Big 12. 

WR Josh Kelly – Texas Tech (Washington State)

The skinny: Not much of a surprise here, as Kelly has impressed during his collegiate career at both Fresno State and Washington State with 148 receptions for 2,2228 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has continued to impress in Lubbock, where he has quickly become a key offensive weapon for the Red Raiders while showcasing his leadership skills during his short time with Texas Tech. 

LB John Pius – Wisconsin (William & Mary)

The skinny: I previously discussed Leon Lowery’s (Syracuse) impressive play this spring, well his roommate has also been one of the Badgers’ top performers in camp. Pius was one of the top FCS linebackers in the country during the last two seasons, and he has quickly made the transition to the P4 level. Equally talented in coverage or making plays in the backfield, look for him to quickly gain the respect of opponents this fall in the Big Ten. 

WR Deion Burks – Oklahoma (Purdue)

The skinny: While the Sooners return Jalil Farooq and Jayden Gibson at the position, Burks’ performance this spring has created plenty of buzz. His quick development further enhances the Oklahoma passing game, which will receive even more help from another impressive transfer, tight end Bauer Sharp (Southeastern Louisiana). Burks has been explosive, while repeatedly showcasing his separation skills and toughness in traffic. Don’t be surprised if he ends up being the Sooners’ top receiver by the end of the season. 

DB Cameron Smith – TCU (Memphis)

The skinny: There wasn’t much buzz surrounding Smith’s arrival in Fort Worth, but that has quickly changed in recent weeks. One of several secondary transfer additions by the Horned Frogs, his performance has helped him standout amongst the crowd and position himself as a potential starter at safety. TCU needed to reload a secondary which disappointed in 2023, so Smith’s emergence has been a very welcome sight.
