All new transfers hope to make a favorable first impression, but not all immediately turn heads during spring practice. And now with spring practices taking place across the country, here are five transfers who have already opened eyes at their new school:
DB Domani Jackson – Alabama (USC)
The skinny: After losing both of their starting cornerbacks to the NFL, the Tide seem to have hit a homerun with Jackson’s addition. The USC transfer, who selected Alabama over Michigan, has been a consistent playmaker during the first half of spring practice, and with his 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame, he should make an immediate impact for the Tide this fall.
QB Max Brosmer – Minnesota (New Hampshire)
The skinny: When a incoming transfer gets named as a team captain after only a couple of months on campus, it has to be considered a positive. There are always some concerns with an FCS quarterback taking over an offense at the P4 level, but Brosmer has passed initial tests with flying colors as he already has a grasp of the offense and has quickly gained the respect of his new teammates.
WR Colbie Young – Georgia (Miami-Florida)
The skinny: Georgia hasn’t had too many holes on their roster in recent seasons, but the lack of a dynamic large wide receiver may have been one. However, that may no longer be an issue, as Young’s performance this spring will add another potent weapon for the Bulldogs, especially in the red zone. At 6-foot-5 and 215-pounds, he should quickly become a fan favorite for Georgia fans in Athens.

DB Caleb Flagg – Missouri (Houston Christian)
The skinny: While another incoming defensive back transfer, Toriano Pride (Clemson), received more publicity and also played well this spring, Flagg became one of the pleasant surprises for the Tigers. His consistently impressive play culminated in him being named the defensive MVP of the spring game. He still has work to do to continue his move up the depth chart, but at this pace the FCS transfer will become a valuable part of the secondary rotation this fall.

DB Jalen Kimber – Penn State (Florida)
The skinny: Penn State was another team that needed to reload their secondary, and while AJ Harris (Georgia) will also prove to be invaluable, Kimber’s veteran leadership has already begun to shine during the early portions of spring practice. While some of the younger players, such as Harris, acclimate to the pressure of receiving more playing time, look for Kimber’s role to continue to grow in importance.
