Draft Fact or Fiction: Falcons Trading Up, Harrison Jr. to NE, Colts Targeting TE

Is Atlanta trying to move up to take a quarterback? Will the Patriots go for a generational receiver at 3? Does Brock Bowers to the Colts make sense?

In today’s Fact or Fiction — NFL Draft edition — I look at three big recent topics around the NFL Draft and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Atlanta trades up for a QB.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

They might try to and want to, as they could miss out on their guy at No. 8, but it will cost them a bit to get to No. 3 or No. 6, where they could have a chance at LSU’s Jayden Daniels. I’m not sure they are in the JJ McCarthy (Michigan) camp, as he could slide to No. 8, and Atlanta could very well trade back out and land a QB later in the round if they can’t snag Daniels.

Nov 11, 2023; Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA; LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels (5) rushes against the Florida Gators during the second half at Tiger Stadium.

2. Marvin Harrison Jr. goes to New England at No. 3.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

It would be a great pick, but the Patriots have so many other needs. If they stay at No. 3, I think they go QB and likely Daniels, and if they trade back, they will miss out on Marvin Harrison Jr. He’s a no-brainer to me, but for a team with so many issues to take a WR No. 3 it doesn’t make a ton of sense.

Nov 4, 2023; Piscataway, New Jersey, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. (18) catches a touchdown pass against Rutgers Scarlet Knights defensive back Robert Longerbeam (7) during the second half at SHI Stadium.

3. The Colts take TE Brock Bowers at No. 15.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Bowers will slide outside the top 10 and will likely be available at No. 15, where the Colts will snag him as a weapon for Anthony Richardson. They have other needs, but an elite TE can be a young QB’s best friend, especially if he’s not adept at stretching the field yet.

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers (19) drives down the field after pulling in a pass from Georgia quarterback Carson Beck (15) during the second half of a NCAA college football game against Kentucky in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023.
