In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Eric Bieniemy is a steal for UCLA.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
I’ve never been overly impressed. Andy Reid was the playcaller in Kansas City, and Bieniemy benefitted greatly from that as the OC, and he was not good with the Washington Commanders. He has his strengths as he works well with players and is a locker room guy by all accounts, but as a play caller, I think he’s overrated, and it won’t help a ton as UCLA will be outmatched in the Big Ten.

2. Dell McGee leaves a huge recruiting gap at Georgia.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
McGee was an elite recruiter, for sure, but Georgia isn’t hurting. In fact, their staff is still the best in the country, top to bottom, with some new additions, and they will continue to reel in No. 1 classes even with McGee off to Georgia State. This isn’t a slight on McGee. It’s just a compliment to the juggernaut Kirby has created.

3. Ohio’s ruling against prop bets is ridiculous.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Talk about going backward. The Gaming Commission in Ohio granted a request from the NCAA to disallow prop bets. The reason? Student athlete well-being. Are you kidding me? As we enter into college athletics, where players will be making money through NIL and big money dictates and rules everything from conference realignment to playoff selections, we are now going to try to protect the feelings of players so they don’t feel pressure from gamblers to over or underachieve? You can’t have it both ways; you can’t incorporate greed and allow betting on college sports and try to soften the blow for the players who are now being compensated. College players want and deserve a piece of the financial pie, but when are we going to stop pretending they are still students first? This is a joke.
