Draft Fact or Fiction: A Top-10 Run on OL, Vikings’ Decision at 11, Who is CB1?

In today’s Fact or Fiction — NFL Draft edition — I look at three big recent topics around the NFL Draft and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Three OL will go top 10.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I don’t see it happening as numerous trades will come into the top of round one and as many as four or even five QBs will be taken. And with an elite top three at WR and obvious defensive needs for some teams, I see Joe Alt from Notre Dame and Olu Fashanu from Penn State as two legit top 10 picks but guys like Taliese Fuaga from Oregon State, JC Latham from Alabama and others will land in the 15-20 range. I like Alt to the Titans at No. 7 and Fashanu maybe at No. 5 to the Chargers if they don’t go WR.

Sep 17, 2022; Auburn, Alabama, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions running back Nicholas Singleton (10) celebrates with offensive lineman Olumuyiwa Fashanu (74) after scoring a touchdown against the Auburn Tigers during the third quarter at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

2. The Vikings will pass on a QB and go EDGE.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Unless they trade up I think they’ll have their pick of Dallas Turner from Alabama and Jared Verse from Florida State at No. 11. With Danielle Hunter off to free agency, this is a massive need and they’d have to give up a lot to sneak up to No. 6 or No. 8 to grab the fourth QB in round one.

Dec 2, 2023; Charlotte, NC, USA; Florida State Seminoles defensive lineman Jared Verse (5) reacts during the fourth quarter against the Louisville Cardinals at Bank of America Stadium.

3. Nate Wiggins will be CB1.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

To me, it’s going to be Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo who reminds some of Devon Witherspoon from the last draft with his toughness and physical nature. Terrion Arnold from Alabama is also up there with the Clemson CB Wiggins and both have played better competition but more and more scouts I talk to are enamored with Mitchell and he might not get past the Raiders.

Dec 2, 2023; Detroit, MI, USA; Toledo Rockets cornerback Quinyon Mitchell (27) breaks up a pass intended for Miami (OH) Redhawks wide receiver Gage Larvadain (10) in the third quarter at Ford Field.
