Off season winning means in season pressure. These teams better take a big step forward after killing it in the portal/recruiting.

1. Ohio State

— The $13 million spending spree is juicy fodder, and who knows how much is true, but let’s be clear — Ohio State better beat Michigan, win the Big Ten, and make a serious run at the whole thing with the roster retention and portal adds. QB remains a big question mark, but beyond that, this roster is absolutely loaded. Will Howard will be under some pressure, but Ryan Day will be under fire if he falls short.

Nov 26, 2022; Manhattan, Kansas, USA; Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Will Howard (18) drops back to pass against Kansas Jayhawks defensive lineman Malcolm Lee (99) during the first quarter at Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium.

2. Ole Miss

— Lane Kiffin has done such a good job in the portal that the rat position is strong in the media. Many are predicting an SEC title and national title run, as he’s had the best portal class since it became a thing. With plenty of talent returning as well, Kiffin better win big this year.

Dec 30, 2023; Atlanta, GA, USA; Mississippi Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin celebrates after a touchdown against the Penn State Nittany Lions in the second half at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

3. Oregon

— The Ducks were very good last season but had a minor Washington problem. Now, moving to the Big Ten it gets harder, but with the way Dan Lanning is recruiting and some of the additions in the portal like QB Dillon Gabriel, WR Evan Stewart, and others, a playoff appearance is expected.

Jan 1, 2024; Glendale, AZ, USA; Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning lifts the Fiesta Bowl trophy after a victory against the Liberty Flames in the 2024 Fiesta Bowl at State Farm Stadium. The Ducks won 45-6.

4. Texas A&M

— Mike Elko inherits a talented team that was in disarray under Jimbo Fisher, but he’s done an amazing job recruiting and in the portal. It’s not as flashy as some of Jimbo’s moves, but it’s more calculated and smarter, and a push for 9 or 10 wins is expected.

Oct 21, 2023; Tallahassee, Florida, USA; Duke Blue Devils head coach Mike Elko during the first quarter against the Florida State Seminoles at Doak S. Campbell Stadium.

5. Colorado

— Coach Prime has yet another very good portal class and thinks he has fixed the offensive line. High school recruiting is minimal but a massive jump from 4-8 is expected and needed.

Nov 25, 2023; Salt Lake City, Utah, USA; Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders on the field against the Utah Utes at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
