Fact or Fiction: Steve Belichick in CFB, Top-10 Notre Dame, Texas’ Place in the SEC

Mike Farrell analyzes how well Washington’s new defensive coordinator will fare at the college level, if the Irish are worthy of being a preseason Top-10 ranking…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Steve Belichick is a fit for college football.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

The son of Bill is headed to Washington to be the defensive coordinatoe. Even with Jedd Fisch‘s New England Patriots ties, this seems like an odd fit. While Belichick can boast his last name and NFL experience, I don’t think he’s ready for the grind of college football with NIL, the portal, and endless recruiting. I could be wrong, but dropping in from the pros, where you were a bit protected by Dad, to this 365-day college football nightmare could be a bit much.

2. Notre Dame is a preseason top-10 program.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I’m tempted to say FACT, but they lose so much along the offensive line and at running back, and I’m not sold on Riley Leonard like I wasn’t sold on Sam Hartman. The defense should be really good and keep them in every game, but do they have enough offensive firepower to win in any shootouts? I think they lose 3 and finish outside the top 10.

3. Texas will be the second best team in the SEC next season.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Georgia will be the best, but after that? Alabama? Ole Miss? Perhaps, but I like Texas with Quinn Ewers back, a nice portal class, and some serious offensive weapons. The defense reloads as well, and despite their initiation to the SEC, I think they make a run at it all again next season. And this incoming freshman class is nasty in spots.
