In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Matt Rhule is handling the Nebraska QB situation properly.
Farrell’s take: FACT
It’s risky to say no to Kyle McCord. After all, he won 11 games in the Big Ten last season brings immediate experience, and can handle the pressure. But with 5-star Dylan Raiola set to commit, Rhule decided to go all in on youth. And now he’s kept Daniel Kaelin in this class as well which is somewhat remarkable, so he has two freshmen QBs next year. Chubba Purdy is also in the mix, so Nebraska lacks great experience but has youth and promise. There will be growing pains, but this is the right path.
2. Marvin Harrison Jr. should come back to Ohio State.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
Harrison Jr. is a high-character kid, and he would love to come back to try to win a national title, win the Big Ten, and beat Michigan. But he can’t pass up two things — the money of the NFL as NIL won’t come close to what he can make. And second, entering gives him another year toward his second NFL contract, which is where the real money is. To pass up that kind of money and return without an established quarterback and no guarantee Ohio State can break through makes zero sense. He’s gotta go.
3. Saban hiring a former Michigan coach is solely for the purpose of the matchup.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
People like to talk about this, but it’s dumb. Nick Saban hired former Michigan linebackers coach George Helow to his staff, and the jokes are rampant. Is he hired as the “Chief Michigan Figure Outer” and all that jazz. It’s dumb. Saban doesn’t need help figuring out the Michigan offense, as he’s seen it all before. Whether they can stop it is another story altogether. But the Connor Stalions jokes and all are just fodder for the trolls. This is a long-term and excellent hire.
