In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Arch Manning plays in the college football playoff.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Manning is now the backup with Maalik Murphy gone but there is no way he sees the field barring an injury. And that’s fair. Why would he? Murphy wouldn’t see the field either, as this is Quinn Ewers‘ team. There won’t be any mop-up time in the playoff, and there are no special packages for Manning, but it is interesting to see that backup buffer in Murphy taken away.

Texas quarterback Arch Manning (16) throws a pass during the first Texas Longhorns football practice of 2023 at the Frank Denius Fields on the University of Texas at Austin campus on Monday, March 6, 2023.

2. Kalen DeBoer should be the national Coach of the Year.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Eli Drinkwitz and a few others could make a case, as well as a guy named Nick Saban, but this is a landslide. He is 24-2 as a head coach at Washington, and he overcame injuries and doubters to lead his team to the playoff this season. The guy has been simply an amazing hire and deserves the award.

Oct 14, 2023; Seattle, Washington, USA; Washington Huskies head coach Kalen Deboer is interviewed after defeating the Oregon Ducks at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium.

3. Marvin Harrison Jr. has $20 million in NIL money waiting for him.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

This is an outright lie. No collective has $20 million to throw at one player, and the Ohio State collective has actually been a bit of a disappointment so far. People love to say “first-round money” as uneducated losers trying to get attention, and dummies pick up on it and report it as fact. The NFL is where the money is for Marv if he wants it, but this kid is not about money. At all.

Nov 4, 2023; Piscataway, New Jersey, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman Carson Hinzman (75) hoists wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. (18) after he made a touchdown catch during the NCAA football game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at SHI Stadium. Ohio State won 35-16.
