Fact or Fiction: Ryan Day’s Future, Heisman Front-Runner, Worst Ranked Team

Mike Farrell on whether Ryan Day will be fired if the Buckeyes lose to Ohio State, if Jayden Daniels or Bo Nix…

Ohio State HC Ryan Day.

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Ryan Day will get fired if he doesn’t beat Michigan.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

It’s ridiculous but people are saying and thinking it despite his amazing record overall (56-6, 29-2 in conference heading into THE GAME). That’s how seriously Ohio State fans take the Michigan game especially after years and years of dominance turned over the last two seasons. But win or lose, Day will still be the coach if he wants to be and there’s no way Ohio State would ever fire a man with his record and playoff appearances. And no, you shouldn’t read into the Texas A&M rumors either.

2. Jayden Daniels should be the Heisman front-runner.

Farrell’s take: FACT

The sole reason? He plays in the SEC. Yes, I know that’s SEC bias but it is what it is. More future NFL defensive players play in the SEC so the completion is much more difficult than in the PAC 12 and that can be easily proven. While Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. are great and are having amazing seasons, what Daniels is doing in the SEC is outrageous and historical. He’s the guy.

3. Colorado was the worst team ranked this season.

Farrell’s take: FACT

The Buffs were ranked No. 18 after week three of the season and I can’t find another team close to as bad as them who was ranked. TCU was ranked in the preseason poll and lost to Colorado in the season opener but they still finished 5-7 and won a couple of games of note. Colorado beat the Horned Frogs early and then awful teams — Nebraska, Colorado State, and Arizona State. Barring an upset of Utah, their 4-8 finish is the worst of any team ranked this season.

Nov 11, 2023; Boulder, Colorado, USA; Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders (2) celebrates his touchdown with head coach Deion Sanders in the first half against the Arizona Wildcats at Folsom Field.
