In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Michigan is still the best team in the country.

Farrell’s take: FACT

I still think they have the best roster out there and the fewest weaknesses overall, despite the struggle against Penn State. They showed they can win solely with the run game and defense, but we also know they can open it up. It’s close for me between Michigan and Georgia, but I like Michigan’s balance even better.

Michigan running back Blake Corum (2) takes off on a 30-yard touchdown run in the second half of an NCAA football game against Penn State Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, in State College, Pa.

2. Mississippi State should have moved on from Arnett after one season.

Farrell’s take: FACT

It’s just not a fit, and Zach Arnett was way over his head. He didn’t help himself by not retaining the staff under Mike Leach, and he made many other mistakes that didn’t ingratiate himself early. But the biggest problem is that the product on the field is simply horrible, and there’s not point delaying the inevitable. There will be a domino effect after A&M moved on from Jimbo and his massive salary, and this was one of the needed dominoes to fall.

3. Sam Pittman is done.

Farrell’s take: FACT

It’s not official, but I don’t think Pittman survives, especially with fellow SEC West programs moving on from their coaches. I know there aren’t divisions anymore next season, but trust me, it has an impact that A&M and Mississippi State cut bait with their coaches. The loss to Auburn in that manner was inexplicable and ruined any momentum gained from the win over Florida. This just doesn’t seem like a situation you wait another year on.
